"From the past to the future: What is creation all about?"

Lidewij Edelkoort, Peaches, Gordon Wagener and Mario Lombardo challenged 32 artists to draw their picture of a futuristic city.

We’ve seen beautiful, stunning and well thought works in the categories of photography, design, textile and food. Each of these categories brought up two winning participants, that take part in the “Future of the City Award”.

During the voting process we would like to take the opportunity and introduce the finalists, their work and their motivation for being creative.

She received her degree in Studio Art from Wesleyan University in 2007 after constructing her thesis primarily out of insects, and has since continued to search the details of her surroundings for inspiration. The more I walk, the more I am able to piece together the map of my city in my head.

Why are you creating what you are creating?
I create art as a way to connect the past with the present, to explore my role in the world and how it fits into a greater whole of human history.

Where will you live in 5 years?
I think that I will still live in the Boston area (specifically Somerville or Cambridge); I was born here, much of my family is here, I have roots in this city. I love to visit other places, but in the end I am always happy to come home.

What will your city of the future look like?
In my city of the future, we will have made great strides towards equality.

How do you like to move around in your city?
I love to walk. The more I walk, the more I am able to piece together the map of my city in my head.

What would be your question for the city of the future?
I would ask the city how it remembers its past.
