This Sunday the International Motor Show (IAA) has come to an end and our smart urban stage inflate is now also being packed up in boxed. Frankfurt was the last Stop in our big one and a half year long smart urban stage tour to eleven European metropolises. So of course there was a little farewell party last Saturday.
The Azita Store had invited the Frankfurt newcomer-band Young Hare to perform at their Fahion meet Music Bash. The bands, whose music floats somewhere between Post Punk, Beach Pop and Krautrock, wowed the crowds with their amazing sounds. Trendy clothes, great music, good food and inspiring conversation, the Azita Party had it all. And thanks to the fabulous weather, we could take full advantage of our smart urban stage terrace one last time. We vote: an absolutely worthy last party at the smart urban stage!
I spoke to a few guests about Frankfurt and the future of the city.
Nicola is 27 and works in photography post-production. Viki is a 30-year-old elementary school teacher. Nicola likes walks along the riverside of the main with his dog and Viki calls Sachsenhausen her favourite part of Frankfurt. Both either walk or ride their bike through Frankfurt, but – for cold or rainy days – wish public transport were cheaper.
Nicola believes Frankfurt will rebuild Frankfurts old city centre. “One day it will look just like at the beginning of the 20th century,” he sais. They also have a question for the future: “When will we use rooftops more efficiently?” Events with a view of the city or rooftops as green spaces, the unused areas have a lot of potential, both believe. And if beaming, which Viki hope will be invented very soon, exists, we won´t even have to wait for one of those elevators to get there.
Jasna is 24 “born and raised in Bornheim” and still loves the Frankfurt neighbourhood dearly. She cycles through Frankfurt and says the city is already taking actions, but even more bike paths would be wonderful. If she could ask the Frankfurt of tomorrow one question she would like to know if subcultures are finally established a bit more. “I would just like to see a bit more variety!” she told me. The student also has a vision for the future; she thinks the city centre will expand upwards and there will be many more high-rise buildings. “One day” Jasna thinks, “Frankfurt will truly be Mainhattan.”
