And the winner is: Calle de Diversion

Calle de Diversion is the winning project of the smart future minds community award.

In mid of September we called our smart urban stage Facebook community for vote and asked them to decide which project is Europe’s most innovative.

The people haven spoken and declared «Calle de Diversion» the winner of the smart future minds community award. The project by Italian sociologist Pasquale Passannante and Venezuelan architect Rafael Machado aims to involve citizens in replanning public spaces, even where it seems impossible.

In 2010 the group started the project «Calle de Diversion», which is about reaching out to poorer communities in cities around the world. So far, the project has been launched in Caracas, Palermo and Armenia. The team have helped adults and children to create spaces around the city for traditional and popular games by referring back to their childhood memories. Games in urban spaces combine memory, creativity and a new sense of citizenship. The ultimate aim is to create recreational communities that allow everyone to participate.

Congratulations to «Calle de Diversion» and thanks to everyone who participated in the voting.
