Calle de Diversion is the winning project of the smart urban stage Rome, Prof. Lorenzo Imbesi had curated it in the category BE.
LPU (Liga de la Partida Urbana) is a group founded by Italian sociologist Pasquale Passannante and Venezuelan architect Rafael Machado. The group aims to involve citizens in replanning public spaces, even where it seems impossible.
In 2010 the group started the project «Calle de Diversion», which is about reaching out to poorer communities in cities around the world. So far, the project has been launched in Caracas, Palermo and Armenia. The team have helped adults and children to create spaces around the city for traditional and popular games by referring back to their childhood memories. Games in urban spaces combine memory, creativity and a new sense of citizenship. The ultimate aim is to create recreational communities that allow everyone to participate.
