Project – Stacking and growing – the school building in Leutschenbach

Schools are increasingly becoming living spaces. The Leutschenbach school building that opened in 2009 is an extremely modern and visionary school complex.

With the striking building by Zurich architect Christian Kerez the city of Zurich is signalling its commitment to developing the district of Leutschenbach.

The rooms are stacked on top of one another and are of varying dimensions and heights. They are different forms of the same general architectural space concept. The school for around 500 children is connected to the environmentally friendly district heating network of the waste-to-energy plant in Hagenholz and  complies with the Minergie standard.
